Official Showcase Artists Announced
This year’s Official Showcase selections represent an exciting array of folk genres from across the US, Canada, and 15 additional countries representing Appalachian, Americana, Blues, Bluegrass, Celtic, Cajun, Global Roots, Indigenous, Indie-Folk, Old-Time, Singer-Songwriters, and Traditional.
Artists interested in additional showcasing this year are invited to explore private showcase opportunities.
Philly Award for Folk Alliance
FAI received a Philly Award for excellence in nonprofit marketing, Short Video category from Nonprofit Connect. Now in their 14th year, the Philly Awards celebrate local nonprofits driving social change through outstanding achievements in communications and marketing.
Our conference theme, Forbidden Folk, begs the question, "where have all the folk singers gone?".
If ever there was a time to share music on issues of concern (no matter the perspective), it is under this banner as we celebrate activism in art this year.
Global issues related to the environment, discrimination, poverty, consumerism, resource wars, immigration, and systemic injustice are as concerning now as they were in the 60’s and 70’s.
We invite you to tag your own or your favorite #ForbiddenFolk songs and videos if they are theme related or to take this time to pen a new one, post, and share it with us. We’ll be posting daily and re-sharing across our social media platforms.
Here’s one to get you started by #FAI2017 Showcase artist and Camp Instructor Eliza Gilkyson - The Great Correction.
