    "It's a blue nightfall. Now I weep"
On May 21, 2017, our community lost a beloved son. He was a big part of our folk family and lives deep in many of our hearts. Jimmy's final showcase with us was lovingly captured by John Lupton on February 18, 2017. We share it with you now in his memory.
Fellow friend Dave Marsh penned a beautiful tribute to Jimmy in the Austin Chronicle. Read it here.
    Back to Malibu
FAI Friends, Board Members, and Staff Recreate the 1st photo
In May, our Board of Directors and senior staff held a two-day meeting in Malibu, CA at Camp Hess Kramer, the site of the inaugural 1989 conference. In addition to a year-end review, the meeting included fiscal training, program planning for 2018, and the discussion of the 2020 site selection process. The Board also dove into FAI's history by reviewing past programs from each conference in preparation for the 30th conference celebrations. The event closed with a special visit from co-founder Clark Weissman, followed by a reception for California members and music industry friends. A group photo was taken in the same location as the 1989 group photo.

FAI gave out 100 scholarships to first-time artist attendees and 26 to first-time industry attendees for a total of $35,905 this year. Named after our visionary founder, the Elaine Weissman Scholarship for First Conference Attendees Fund supports many artists and industry professionals coming for the first time and helps our organization offset the cost of scholarships granted.
