Across the Continent
Over the past several years Folk Alliance International’s Board of Directors, Regional Leaders, and staff have been examining how best to provide services to members beyond the US border.
In particular it was noted that the primary value to the increased presence of non-US members at Regional conferences has been access to US markets for touring, recording, and other opportunities.
As a result, and in order to increase long-term value to Canadian members and improve future opportunities in Mexico, Latin America and the Caribbean, it was decided to expand the inclusion of membership beyond the US to reflect the delegate representation at each regional conference.
In part this is to solidify the International intent and jumpstart new International opportunities in North America and around the world by complimenting activity and reflecting existing interest, without directly competing with similar organizations in other territories.
Effective as of February 2014 all Canadian, Mexican and non-U.S. Caribbean FAI members are eligible full-fledged members of the region most closely associated with their home location. This extended membership provides the authority to vote and run for office in their regional Board of Directors elections, actively participate in all FAI regional events (including potential future one-day events beyond the US borders, similar to those presented in the US), and to take a more active role within their regions.
Discussions continue regarding FAI participation and relationship to networks in Europe, Central and South America, and Oceania.
These developments are still a work in progress and input is welcomed to help guide the future of each FAI Region, as well as International service and activity.
