Interns are supervised and supported by FAI staff.
To be eligible interns must:
Andrew Beach, 2016 Fall FAI Intern
"The experience and knowledge I obtained at Folk Alliance was invaluable. I had the privilege of seeing first hand how a non-profit works and thrives. While interning I was able to experience and work on many different projects with multiple co-workers using research, data input and design. I was also able to work and meet with local businesses in which I learned and bettered my communications skills. Putting on a music conference of this size takes a lot of teamwork and dedications and I was very fortunate to have had the privilege of working with the great team at Folk Alliance."
Marisa Kolka, 2016 Summer FAI Intern
"Interning at Folk Alliance was a great start for my career! As a public relations major, I love social media, and at FAI I was able to get a lot of experience in that area, along with a ton of other things. Planning a huge folk music conference is no easy task! Everyone in the office was very welcoming, and I felt immediately a part of the team. My opinions were respected and valued, and working with a folk music organization is just incredibly awesome! I'm super excited to return for the conference!"
Breanne Jacobs, 2016 Summer FAI Intern
"Interning at Folk Alliance was one of the greatest experiences I've had thus far. I've learned so much about the music industry, running a non-profit organization, and planning a huge music conference. I've also become a pro at creating Excel spreadsheets! The people in this office are some of the nicest people I have ever met and they made the office so comfortable and welcoming. I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend my summer!"
Eric Schumacher, 2015 Fall/2016 Winter FAI Intern
"The best part of interning for FAI was the exposure to a vibrant and dedicated culture of musicians, presenters, managers, and other industry professionals. The conference itself was one of the best experiences of my life. I also had the chance to observe and learn about management on all levels, from membership data management to strategic planning. I had the opportunity to contribute to grants management, event planning, and even learned more about web design than I ever thought I would. Interning at FAI really means getting firsthand experience in non-profit or arts management in a truly one-of-a-kind organization."
Leah Watts, 2015 Summer FAI Intern
"My name is Leah Watts and I was the Summer 2015 Intern at Folk Alliance International. I am currently finishing up my Music Education Degree at Kansas State University along with minors in leadership and business. My internship at Folk Alliance International taught me about working with a non-profit organization, working within the music industry, and the process of putting on one of the most educational folk music conferences. I also learned more about the simple tasks that have to occur within the office to keep a successful non-profit organization running. As you can see, I gained so much through my internship at Folk Alliance International, and made some connections that I couldn’t have made anywhere else!"
Sarah Bustamante, 2014 Fall/2015 Spring FAI Intern
"My name is Sarah Bustamante, and I recently graduated UMKC with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. As an intern at Folk Alliance, I gained a valuable experience with exceptionally pleasant people. From working on a team to realizing my ability to assemble IKEA appliances, I learned a variety of things about myself and my capabilities. But, the most important thing I gained from Folk Alliance was the opportunity to work with some of the nicest people I've ever met."
