Book Ramy Essam for a private showcase!

Official showcase artist at FAI 2017.

Few artists can embody this year´s FAI theme ”Forbidden Folk” like Ramy Essam, the real voice of the Egyptian Revolution of 2011. Celebrated by the people, censored by the regime.

In 2011 Ramy Essam exploded into international fame as the voice of the Egyptian revolution.

Written quickly on his acoustic guitar, his songs spread like wildfire among the demonstrators, and during the height of the uprising Ramy performed in front of millions of people in the Tahrir Square in Cairo.

The songs became the soundtrack of a whole generation of young Egyptians´ struggle for a better

future. His song ”Irhal”, in which he´s demanding the resignation of Mubarak, is referred to as the

real anthem of the revolution. Time Out Magazine later selected Irhal as the third most worldchanging song of all time (with John Lennon´s ”Imagine” #5 on the list).

After relocating to Sweden in 2014, he´s toured intensely through Scandinavia, Europe and the Mid East. In early 2017
he´s finally releasing his highly anticipated new album. An album where rock riffs join forces with infectious oriental beats and political street poetry demanding social justice, gender equality and human rights. Or as Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine) puts it: A ”rock Bob Dylan of the Middle East”.

He remains a loud voice for the young generation and its struggle for a progressive and modern society. Building on the lost, but nevertheless dead, hopes and dreams of 2011´s revolution, the album is a megaphone of the streets and for a better future.

He performs at FAI with his great band of Swedish and Egyptian musicans: Guitars - Johan Carlberg (Robyn, Sixto Rodriquez, Herbie Hancock, Ron Wood etc), Bass - Andreas Unge (Laleh, Eric Bibb, Calle Real etc), Drums/Perc - Muhammad Ra´fat (Dina El Wedidi, Rim Banna, Fathy Salama).

His shows at FAI will include the big hits from the revolution as well as new songs from the upcoming album, and personal stories from a life of true activism in art with the music as his weapon for change.

Don´t miss the opportunity to book the internationally famous protest singer for a private showcase at FAI 2017!
